A newly built subdivision has been barricaded off by the District of Peachland after a rockslide spilled onto the only road into the development.

Municipal workers were notified Thursday afternoon that a rockslide had taken place at the Hall subdivision on Victoria Street.

The road through the single-family home subdivison runs past a large rock wall and a large section of rock broke off the wall, filling a ditch and spilling on to the road.

Three to four truckloads worth of rock broke off the wall, estimated Doug Allin, the district’s director of operations.

Allin decided to barricade access to the subdivision out of caution. Geotechnicians are expected to investigate today and report back to the district whether there is a danger of further rockslides.

Work at the subdivision is close to completion, but no house construction has yet started.
