If you’re planning to do a litter clean-up as part of the Community 20 Minute Make-Over and want to get free litter bags and gloves, Wednesday March 30 is the last day to register. The Community 20 Minute Make-Over is Friday, April 1 at 10 a.m.

Waste Reduction Facilitator Rae Stewart says, “The idea behind the Make-Over is to encourage everyone – residents, students, businesses, and organizations – to take a few minutes at 10 a.m. to step outside and give our neighborhoods a good spring cleaning. That means you could use your coffee break to pick up litter, sweep a sidewalk, or  bust some graffiti. It’s a fun easy way to show some community pride and spruce up our neighborhoods while we’re at it!”

Stewart says the Regional Waste Reduction Office is offering free garbage bags and gloves for picking up the litter to make the clean-up as easy as possible for anyone who wants to participate. They also have graffiti removal kits.  “We’ll also arrange to have the full bags of litter picked up and taken to the landfill after you’re done!” says Stewart.

Stewart adds, “We’re expecting thousands of people to be out on the street next Friday morning. Anybody can do this, the more the merrier, use your imagination, tackle what you can, you’ll be surprised what a difference you can make using only 20 minutes of your day!”

To register your group for the free litter bags and pick-up, or for more information, simply contact the Regional Waste Reduction Office at 250-469-6250 or www.regionaldistrict.com/recycle.
