A well known volunteer in Peachland and fixture at Peachland Ace Hardware was named Citizen of the Year Friday night at the district’s civic awards ceremony.

Martha Jenkins took the top honour over nominees Chris Scowen and Gayle Wainwright.

Other awards handed out by the district Friday include:

Wedding Anniversaries

• Margaret & Ted Sinclair will be celebrating their 50th Anniversary in December 15, 2011.
• Jean and Al Fraser recently celebrated their 60th Anniversary December 1, 2010.

Christmas Lighting

This award is handed out for the best overall use of Christmas lighting to illustrate a Christmas theme or display.

• The recipient is Peachland Fire & Rescue Service

Youth Achievement

Criteria for this award: School age youth, demonstrated outstanding leadership, made significant contributions to youth and community. Three recipients this year.

Community Builders Award

Criteria: Peachland resident or group, recognition of a minimum of 15 years dedication to service to community. Three recipients this year.

Meritorious Service

Criteria: Peachland resident or group, significant service in the past year. Four nominees this year.

Councillors Award of Merit

Criteria: Any person or group, local or otherwise, making a significant contribution to our community, as decided by the District Councillors.

• The recipient of the 2010 Councillors Award of Merit goes to Rob Campbell.

Mayors Award of Merit

Criteria: Any person or group, local or otherwise, making a significant contribution to our community, as decided by the Mayor.

• The recipient of the 2010 Mayors Award of Merit goes to Bob Sugden.

Freedom of the Municipality

Criteria: Peachland resident who have reached their 100th Birthday, Peachland residents who have lived in Peachland for more than 75 years, Peachland resident who have made outstanding contributions to the community for more than 5 years. Two recipients this year.

Criteria: Peachland resident, Making greatest contribution to the improvement of the community. There are three nominees in this category.
