the residents along Princeton Ave that completely oppose the gravel pit, have cost the general tax payers of Peachland big bucks in the future!
Influencing our council to yet make another discision to call into action for the court order seems like we are expecting a good out come from spiting into the wind… so to speak!

I doute that there will be a very good outcome for Peachland.

Rex Racer the gravel pit you are talking about is in a residential area and completely opposed by the residents all along Princeton. A community group against this project submitted their petition to the city . Many letters and phone calls to the MP and MLA were made to help close the pit down.
Your comment that the city doesn’t want the business is incorrect – for once the city is listening to the voices of the Peachland residents.

Your explanation above is one reason why I think going back and forth in the forums is preferrable to long comment threads under stories. You’ll always know where the input from everyone else is on a given topic.

Sorry Dave, I was a little grumpy yesterday. I understand how the site works.

I like to read the commentaries (and of course comment myself from time to time), so I was used to scrolling directly to the comments section to pull up the latest rants. It seems that the recent comments section is smaller than before so things “drop off” more quickly, and especially if there are a lot of discussions on a particular topic.

I was returning to this particular story regularly to see if you had made any further efforts to contact Mr. Smith about the subdivision approval and/or if you or others had any comment about my thoughts on this delay being part of some kind of extortion (i know, strong word) on the part of the town.

There has to be an actual reason why it took 18 months to get subdivision approval. I would like to know why. Is the town obligated to reveal the details of these “processes” or can they just tell their constituents to go fly a kite?

With an election coming up, I would like to know if this project was intentionally screwed around with by the “powers that be” in this town or if it was Trepanier Manor that dropped the ball or didn’t get their stuff together properly. Or was it merely Land Titles in Kamloops that mulled it over for far too long?

They have subdivision approval now (it appears) so then what, if anything, changed between the original application and the eventual approval? Were there re-submissions or requests for additional detail that the developer did not respond to in a timely manner?

Are you referring to that particular article not appearing on the home page anymore?

If you are, that’s what happens to all the stories. As soon as they are posted, they appear at the very top of the listing for the category they belong to. As newer stories are posted, older ones get bumped down… and then eventually off the front page.

They are there, however.

Well beaver, ‘positive’ is in the eye of the beholder, I guess.

As a reporter, it is not by job to make a story negative or positive. It is to simply tell the story to the best of my ability, using available facts.

There’s no way around it: Trepanier Manor and its principals are being sued from at least four directions. I’m not sure how one turns that into a positive, but thankfully I’m not in the spin business.

Developers are everywhere in BC…some more savoury and some more competent than others.

And I just remembered the comment made at the DCC meeting a few months back. It was said that any developer that resisted paying out the grease money (my words) may, at the discretion of the town, experience delays in their approvals.

Hey Dave …I would have liked to have seen your article about Trepanier Manor far more positive. As you know from your own quest for a skate park, there are a thousand reasons to give up and move on. You did a fantastic job of trying to get it through. Remember how the town screwed you around. I still wear the t-shirt.

It seems the Trepanier Manor group, despite the well known delays from council are a very determined, dedicated lot who are putting up with an extraordinary amount of negative print. The bulk of it, from my research is from phony petitions and mindless, idiotic blogs.

We should applaud the Manor’s efforts to stay the course and add another jewel to our magnificent town. There truly is no other town like ours and we should all support and fight for this prestigious undertaking.

Maybe Peachland council could get a McDonald’s franchise so we would have a good tax base!!!

Trepanier Manor will be as wonderful an addition to Peachland as The Gasthaus was years ago. I wish both nothing but total success.

Going back to your comment on July 29, 3:30PM, you stated that Dave Smith is the Subdivision Officer. Mr. Wilshaw stated that the biggest hurdle was getting subdivision approval. Have you been able to interview Mr. Smith about this delay?

To clarify, I am not faulting anyone. Many, many people have asked me what is happening at Trepanier Manor. With the latest (and largest) suit, I decided to let our readers know. There is no assignment of blame; it just is what it is.

Mr. Wilshaw blamed the current problems on not having subdivision approval quick enough.

I have no problem with your news reporting…I think your a great reporter…it’s just that instead of supporting someone who obviously is still plugging away at the developement , subdivision only went through just recently…you can’t fault a developer because of hold ups due to the town and province….
