It will be another 10 months before the family of slain teenager Ashlee Hyatt learns if her accused killer will be put behind bars.
A West Kelowna teenaged girl is accused of murdering Hyatt at a Peachland house party in the summer of 2010. She cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
A trial date of October 15, 2012 has been set for the accused, who allegedly stabbed 16-year-old Hyatt at a house on San Clemente Avenue.
“Ten more months to wait for justice for my beautiful daughter,” Hyatt’s mother Charrie Hyatt-Griswald told Peachland News. “I have waited this long, by the time this goes to trial we have waited two years and four months, so ridiculous.
“At least the trial has been set and we are getting closer to justice,” said Hyatt-Griswald.

she’ll be out in 5 years
If found guilty, which is extremely unlikely, she will serve far less than 5 years I believe. It will be really interesting to see what information comes out in the trial, about all parties involved. These sorts of things rarely are as the media and families make them appear. I for one am very curious as to the truth about both families’ backgrounds, i.e.: family dynamics, stable marriages and or stable divorces, sports, living arrangements, and step parents etc etc etc. Hopefully they are both squeaky clean. However, unlikely, as it will come out at the trial, and especially if convicted, they are all open books to scrutinize, everyone involved.
Very little about the circumstances of that night have been released in the media due to a publication ban.
Peachland News will not become a venue for victimizing the victim’s family.
The whole thing is do very sad and devastating! I can’t imagine how Ashlee’s mother gets out of bed every day ! The comment about how teenage girls fight was so accurate … It used to be fists of hair and name calling. Now we live in a world where children are committing these horrible adult crimes! The key word is “adult.” She needs to be tried as an adult, accept her punishment and be sent away. I think if it was my daughter who did this , I would make her stand up and take responsibility for what she did ! God bless Ashlee’s family … and to the accused… Good luck meeting Our maker … You’re going to need it!
After reading the above comments… I could just cry… tears of sorrow for a girl whose life was taken, tears of frustration for her loved ones, tears of despair for a society that is crumbling before my eyes, tears of fear for all of us…
This person took a life….a life was removed from a loving circle of friends, from a Mother that loved her baby, from a sister that adored her big sister, from a man that wanted nothing more than to be included in this family etc. I would fall to my knees and beg to be charged and take the consequences of my actions. My heart goes out to my friend and to her family for the loss of their beloved.
She hasn’t showed any remorse what so ever. People are entitled to their own opinion and freedom of speech but she was not scared, she attacked Ashlee, on purpose and took her life.. Plain and simple. I hope she rots in jail for the rest of her life for what she’s done. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out if you stab someone chances are you can kill them.. Which she successfully did. She knew full well what she was doing. There is nothing accidental about this. It wasn’t done out of some form of defense or fear. She’s a monster and it sickens me that she’s living… Getting slurpees at the gas station with her mother.. And Ashlee’s gone because some psycho girl couldn’t control herself and violently lashed out, and attacked another human being. She’s a murderer, and hopefully our justice system pulls through for Ashlee’s family and friends.
The Monster should be sitting in jail right now–But her time is coming and she will have a long time to sit and rot in jail..She may think she got away with it..But I can assure you ~Angel Ashlee~ is and will continue to make her pay!!!!!!!!!!
Lock her up and throw away the key
“JUSTICE FOR ASHLEE”
The wheels of justice turn slowly, and this is painful for people who loved Ashlee as they need resolution and consequences. But I think it is important to remember that the Crown is working hard to gather evidence that will convict this teen as an adult, and this of course takes time. I think people who are not personally involved with Ashlee, her family or friends ought not speak about it unless they have something of value to her family to contribute. I strongly believe that supporting our Crown Council is the best way to help Ashlee now. I would rather the justice system move slowly and effectively than quickly and fail.
Knife wielding.
You’ve hit it right on the salient point, Sean. Teenage girls have gotten into knock-down drag-outs, hair-pulling scream and punch-fests over thousands of years, over the most trivial of reasons, fueled by emotion and fear, greed and angst, the list of reasons is a permutation and we all understand it as a society, as a friend, brother or sister. The outcomes of our confrontations are usually licks and bruises, of the body, love and pride. Clearer heads in the next days, the next weeks, the next decades, gives one the opportunity – the privilege – to look back with remorse and\or reflection – and to grow and know that we have grown. Such is regret, such is maturity. Regrettably, some of us are not so prescient in the moment.
Violent actions of passion – violent, regretful crimes – are our human failing. Was this knife an evil prop of opportunity found at arms reach in the moment? Was this weapon provided to her, in the moment, by a third party as a means of defense or intimidation? Or did she carry this weapon to the party whilst not under threat – a sidearm if you will? Did she feel bullied, thus in need of self defense, yet misguided in not knowing, and tragically learning, that such defenses are oft employed without our sober consent.

{Removed/admin} How can you defend someone that murdered Ashlee and {Removed/admin} Please! Show some respect for the families! {There is a publication ban on this case.}
I come to no one’s defense with my comment. I only reflected upon a time in our recent past when teenage disputes were settled without weapons and disregard for life.

It makes perfect sense though… For the one who murdered Ashlee, Of course it was wrong nothing makes it right… What the Murderer did caused a lot of pain for hundreds of people. I myself being one of those hundreds of people. However I’m sure if the Murderer could take what she did back, she would. She was probably just as scared. I am NOT saying she should have acted in the way she did that was horrible and disgusting. It is all so sad two lives being ruined and wasted. It’s a tragedy, Ashlee and her friends and family will get there Justice! Cannot believe it has taken so long and the is still time so much more time to wait! My love goes out too everyone who misses Ashlee especially her Family. Stay strong!
This brings great sadness to my heart, I have daughters and if some person took the life of one of them I would not wait for 2 years and a few months while the murderer is allowed to walk and breath. My heart goes out to Ashley’s family. {Removed/admin | Wishing harm on others is not acceptable.} I believe in an eye for an eye and it’s to bad the courts don’t share that opinion.
