Peachland will hold a short community celebration May 2 to welcome the Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Relay.
The relay is to commemorate Hansen’s original Man in Motion World Tour, which took place a quarter century ago.
Starting in Newfoundland, the relay will work its way west. Runners are expected in Peachland at about 2:30 p.m. on May 2, according to Cheryl Wiebe, director of community services.
Wiebe said the relay will stop over in Peachland for about a half hour before going on to Summerland.
Centennial Way and the wheelchair accessible ramp at Swim Bay will be highlighted during the celebration, according to Wiebe.
Council approved a budget of $2,000 and Wiebe said she will be forming a committee to help organize the event.
Community groups will be contacted and asked to participate in the committee.
