West Kelowna RCMP responded to an arson just after midnight on February 1, 2012. The fire department was on scene when RCMP arrived at the towing company’s vehicle compound located on the 2000 block of Juliann Road. Five vehicles in total were damaged. Entry to the compound was made by cutting a hole in the chain link fence.

Crime: Residential break and enters

Two break and enters occurred and were reported on January 22, 2012 by property representatives for absentee home owners. RCMP attended an address on the 3000 block of Gates Road in Glenrosa that occurred during the night. Suspects entered the home and left with at least a TV and audio system. The second occurrence was in West Kelowna Estates on the 2000 block of Spyglass Way. The thieves got in through a rear window, searched the entire residence and left through the front door.

The residents of a home for sale on the 900 block of Mission Springs Road thought they were putting their jewellery in a safe place while their house was being shown. Unfortunately this turned out to be a heartbreaking decision. The two jewellery boxes were placed on the floor of a locked truck outside the home and were discovered empty on the ground the next morning. The boxes contained approximately $30,000 worth of jewellery, much of it antique and family heirlooms. The most notable pieces include: a purple amethyst heritage necklace, four sets of cameo earrings and necklaces, a pearl necklace with antique clasp, a gold nugget pendant necklace, an antique grouse foot Scottish brooch, sapphire “owl” stud earrings, large antique garnet earrings and a gold pendant heart containing a loved one’s ashes.

Crime: Attempted robbery

Kelowna RCMP received a report of an attempted robbery at approximately 1 a.m. on January 28, 2012. A young man wearing a bandana entered a take-out pizza store on the 3000 block of Gordon Drive, drew bear spray from the front of his pants and demanded money from the employee. The employee retreated to a back room and the suspect ran out the door empty-handed. He is described as a thin Caucasian male, 5’6” to 5’8” tall and was wearing dark blue jeans, a leather belt with a large bronze colored buckle, a black hoodie with grey and black plaid sleeves and a large hood.
