Tree victim of attempted hit and run by impaired driver
A 21-year-old West Kelowna woman is facing potential charges of impaired driving after driving through a fence and over a tree into City Park today.
At 1:20 p.m., Kelowna RCMP received a report that a black Acura had crashed through the fencing near the bridge and down into City Park.
Witnesses said that the vehicle ‘caught air’ and drove over a tree before coming to rest. The woman driving attempted to drive away but a tire had been dislodged from the rim.
Police found the woman to be showing signs of impairment and returned her to the detachment for breath samples which were in excess of 2.5 times the legal limit.
The investigation continues but the woman faces potential charges of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Drive While Over .08. It is unknown at this point if further charges will be recommended.
