Many groups made ‘Go Fish’ a success
On behalf of the Regional District of Central Okanagan, I want to thank all those families who once again overwhelmingly supported our seventh annual ‘Go Fish’ program.
It was held each weekend during May in the special netted fishing area in Shannon Lake Regional Park and the Hall Road pond fishing area in Mission Creek Regional Park. Your continued support in this exciting urban fishery is tremendous!
But our Parks Services staff wouldn`t be able to stage this program without the help of some equally tremendous volunteers. Thanks go to the members of the Peachland Sportsmen`s Association, Lonely Loons Flyfishers Society and the Kelowna and District Fish and Game Club for their equipment, expertise and willingness to share their love of the outdoors in general and fishing in particular with youngsters across the region.
Thanks as well to the BC Ministry of Environment and Conservation Officer Service for their weekend help. And we wouldn`t have any fish to catch if it wasn`t for the support of the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC and the Summerland Trout Hatchery staff which stocked our fishing areas with several thousand rainbow trout.
While `Go Fish` officially wrapped up May 27 for this year, we encourage you to take part in Family Fishing weekend at Shannon Lake Regional Park. On Saturday, June 16 the Peachland Sportsmen`s Association will hold a youth fishing activity and on Sunday the 17 our Parks Services staff will be there to help youngsters experience the sport.
