A Kelowna man’s collection of 9 handguns was stolen from his gun locker on Friday night.
On June 30 at 7:10 a.m., Kelowna RCMP received a report of a break and enter to a residence on the 2300 block of Stillingfleet Road. Apparently, sometime overnight, someone entered the garage through a small opening under the overhead door and pried open the gun safe located there. Inside the safe was a collection of various handguns, all registered to the homeowner.
In all, nine firearms were stolen along with a Samsung cellular phone.
No suspects have yet been identified.

From the Criminal Code of Canada:
98. (1) Every person commits an offence
who
(a) breaks and enters a place with intent to steal a firearm located in it;
(b) breaks and enters a place and steals a firearm located in it; or
(c) breaks out of a place after
(i) stealing a firearm located in it, or
(ii) entering the place with intent to steal a firearm located in it.
(2) In this section, “break” has the same meaning as in section 321, and “place” means
any building or structure — or part of one — and any motor vehicle, vessel, aircraft, railway vehicle, container or trailer.
(4) Every person who commits an offence under subsection (1) is guilty of an indictable
offence and liable to IMPRISONMENT FOR LIFE.
…. instead of calling for bans on guns and ammunition, we need our politicians to demand from the judiciary that they use the provisions already in our laws.
A few lengthy sentences for firearm theft would go a long way to preventing criminal misuse of guns.
