Updated (July 3). . . A man with a mental health disorder was at the centre of a 2.5 hour standoff Monday in Peachland.

RCMP said the man threatened to harm himself and refused to leave his residence on Clarence Road.

“As a precaution, the natural gas was shut off to the house and a police negotiator was called,” said Cnst. Kris Clark.
The man surrendered himself without police involvement. He was uninjured and was taken to hospital for treatment.
“No weapons were involved and no one else was in any danger,” said Clark. “Fortunately, the incident was resolved peacefully and without incident.”

The Clarence Road area of Peachland was the scene of a heavy police presence Monday morning.

Details are few at this time but what is known is RCMP had a house on the corner of Trepanier Road and Clarence Road surrounded. At least one officer had a rifle pointed at a Clarence Road house.

Clarence Road was blocked to all traffic at the Trepanier Road intersection and the Sutherland Road intersection.

PeachlandNews.com received a tip about the incident at about 9:30 a.m. By 10:15 a.m., police had one man in custody.
