On July, 12 at approximately 11:15 p.m., Chilliwack RCMP responded to a report of a missing elderly woman who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease.
Her husband advised police that she could possibly have been missing for up to two hours.
Chilliwack RCMP General Duty members, members of the Seasonal Policing unit, as well as a member of the Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Service all attended to the address in the 44000 block of South Sumas Road.
The Police Dog Service handler Cnst. Mike Jordan and his Police Service Dog (PSD) Cargo began searching from the residence the woman was last seen. They were able to obtain a track from the woman’s scent.
Within half an hour of the search beginning, Cargo alerted his handler to a bushed area on a nearby property. The woman was located unharmed and passed on to an awaiting Emergency Health Services Unit.
“Our police dogs and their handlers provide an invaluable service to us,” said Cnst. Tracy Wolbeck. “Cargo and his handler were able to locate a high risk missing person in a very short period of time and prevented any harm that could have come to this women because of how quickly they were able to expedite the search.”
