There will be no more roasting hot dogs on an open fire in Peachland, at least until well into fall.
“Campfire permits will not be issued in Peachland until the hot and dry weather has ended which will probably be sometime in late September,” said Fire Chief Grant Topham. “Fires are not allowed on public property, beaches or on private property.”
Although open burning, even on agricultural properties, has been banned for some time, Peachland has made backyard campfire permits available. That is now over as the danger of a forest fire increases.
“Although we will have some days of rainy weather throughout the summer, this will not change the campfire ban,” said Topham. “It only takes another day of hot weather to completely dry everything out after a summer rain.”
Topham urges anyone who sees any kind of open burning or fires to call 911.
