PFRS Snuffs out Princeton Ave. grass fire

by Dave Preston

Peachland firefighters were able to quickly get the upper hand on a grass fire Friday on Princeton Avenue that crept up several trees.

The fire was in a sloped ditch near Forest Hills Drive. The cause of the fire is unknown, according to Fire Chief Grant Topham.

“When I arrived on scene there was heavy white smoke,” said Topham. “The fire was into trees just above Princeton Avenue and fairly close to nearby residences.”

Topham said his immediate concern was to knock down the fire before it spread any farther. Residents in two homes above the fire used garden hoses until firefighters arrived.

Several District of Peachland employees arrived on scene from the nearby public works yard and lent assistance by going into the yards of two residences and using garden hoses to wet down lawns.
