Update (4:19 p.m.). . . It appears a power outage affecting more than 1,400 BC Hydro customers in West Kelowna and the Trepanier area of Peachland has been fixed, but there’s a whole lot more outages for the power company to deal with.
About 900 people are were without power in Vernon. Just over 100 customers have no power in Spallumcheen, more than 1,700 customers are powerless in Lumby and 3,100 homes and businesses in Coldstream are in the dark.
The reason given for the majority of the outages on the BC Hydro outages website is ‘windstorm’. Most of the outages seem to have occurred between 3 and 4 p.m.
There are two small outages in Peachland, one on Lever Court and a second in the Bonnier Lane/Whinton Crescent area. Both outages are affecting only a handful of people.
At one point, more than 6,000 BC Hydro customers were without power Friday afternoon.
Several more power outages have hit the southern area of the Central Okanagan.
Some homes in West Kelowna and all of Peachland were without power Thursday for 10 hours after a tree falling service felled a tree across a major set of powerlines.
On Friday afternoon, two separate incidences took out power to nearly 1,500 homes.
BC Hydro is reporting that 1,474 customers in West Kelowna and Peachland are without power due to an undetermined cause. It is not known exactly which areas are affected. The problem is expected to be fixed by 4:30 Friday afternoon.
There is also five homes without power on Lever Court due to a tree falling on a power line, according to BC Hydro.
