A 42-year-old Peachland man faces numerous potential charges after he apparently tried to flee the scene of a collision with a city bus Tuesday morning.

At 6:38 a.m., the RCMP received a report of a crash between a BC Transit city bus and a blue 2006 Chevy Cobalt at Pandosy Street and Harvey Avenue in Kelowna.

Apparently, the Cobalt struck the bus from behind, lodging the car beneath it. Two off-duty RCMP officers witnessed the driver of the Cobalt attempting to flee the scene but managed to prevent his escape and turned him over to investigators.

Police believed the Peachland man to be impaired by drugs and records showed him to be prohibited from driving. The Cobalt was found to have been stolen earlier that day.

No one appears to have been injured in the crash.

The man is well known to police and has been held in custody to appear in court Wednesday.
