The District of Peachland is losing its director of operations.
Doug Allin confirmed today that he has accepted a job as chief administrative officer for Grand Forks.
Allin was first hired by the municipality as a water mechanic. He was promoted to director of operations in January, 2008.
“Personally, it’s a tough decision,” said Allin. “Professionally, it’s a good step.”
Allin said he has built up a lot of relationships with people, both personally and professionally, during his time in Peachland.
“I will be leaving at the end of September,” Allin said.
In the next two months, the goal for Allin will be to make sure there is a smooth transition to the next director of operations.
Allin said there are a lot of projects on the go in Peachland and it will be difficult to leave some of them, including an upcoming study that will look into the possibility of constructing a pipeline from Peachland Lake that will provide the town drinking water and possibly be used to generate electricity.
Peachland’s new director of operations will be fortunate to inherit a team that is very knowledgeable about the town and operations, according to Allin.

“Allin Leaving For Grand Forks CAO Position”
I would have thought that you, Mr. Preston, would not prescribe to censorship of the pen (There is a limit to what I will except from Anonymous Posters). Even Samuel Clemens had a pen name.
The world is made up of opinions? positive and negative. Elections are all about negativety on the opposition party. But positive on the ruling party.
I see that you deleted “Slick Lizzy’s” first comment, the one at 6:10 a.m. I must agree with Anonymous, as I have had first hand experience with the “Oligarchs” of Peachland and found an arrogance I have not encountered for a long time, with a council that backs them up even if they are wrong, with no comeback on them (as per the local government act 250-260. It makes you wonder where democracy disappeared to.
And you are right, Mr. Preston, Council is only there to rubber stamp what the Managers present them with.
Censorship is a fickle thing. Clearly there must be rules to comments or one has anarchy and lawsuits. I have found that if I give an inch, someone will try and take a mile. People who believe they are anonymous sometimes go much farther than if they used their real names. Such is the way of the Internet.
I know there is a deep seated problem at the district. I’ve said so before. On the other hand, I believe people should generally be civil. If people want to participate in constructive debate, this is the place. If people want to participate in personal attacks and in being snide and rude, they can go elsewhere.
No words come to mind that don’t come out sounding negative so I guess I’ll just bake a cake for Grandforks. Good on them for snatching one of our fines top dogs.
Good luck Doug. Was nice to get to know you both personally and professionally. I know you will be successful in your new position. Best of luck and sorry to see you go.
