A body recovered in Okanagan Lake Wednesday morning is that of a man who had gone missing while paddle boarding Monday night.

On July 31 at 9:30 p.m., Kelowna RCMP received a report of a missing person on the 4000 block of Finch Road.

Apparently, a 73-year-old man from Oregon arrived in town the previous day to visit family. At approximately 7:30 p.m. Monday night, the man took a paddle board out onto the lake but didn’t return.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t noticed to be missing until the following night. By all accounts, the man was a strong swimmer, experienced paddle boarder and in apparent good physical health. The initial searches were unsuccessful.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, Kelowna RCMP was notified that a body and a paddle board had been located in the lake in the area of Finch Road.

The body has since been confirmed to be that of the 73-year-old man and his family has been notified.

West Kelowna RCMP are assisting the BC Coroner Service with the investigation.
