A total of 75 competitors took to the waters of Okanagan Lake Saturday in the annual Rattlesnake Island Swim.
Forty seven swimmers began their race at Ratttlesnake Island, across from Peachland, and swam 3.1 kilometres to the Swim Bay finish line. Another 28 swimmers started at Swim Bay, crossed the lake, swam around the island and swam back to Swim Bay, for a total seven kilometre circuit.
There were 66 swimmers entered in the 2011 competition.
In the 7k event, Brian Coote took overall first place with a time of 1:43:38. Coote was in the 30 to 39 male age group. Just over nine minutes later, teenager Sally Wallick hit the finish line, with a time of 1:52:42.
Two teenagers tied for first place in the 3.1k event. Andraya Skrlac and Alex Diaz, both in 13 to 15 age groups, arrived at Swim Bay in 53 minutes, 57 seconds.
