Letters to the editor graphicDear Editor;

As a newcomer to Peachland I ask myself who are the PRA? Who do they represent? What are their motives?

In my opinion the new TNI proposal would bring Peachland a step further on the road to more development. We need more attractive space to attract new businesses and this will bring more employment.

The reasons the PRA gives against this proposal make no sense at all. Talking to a lot of fellow Peachlanders I know must of them are in favour of this project.

The Edgewater is an obsolete building plus a real eyesore to Beach Avenue.

I fully support Steve Allison (I do not know him personally) and his TNI company in their endeavors and wish them all the best.

    Newcomer I agree with your remarks. I have lived in Peachland for nearly 7 years. I also fully support the TNI development.
    Regarding the Peachland residents association I have tried to find details but the hyperlink on the District website does not go to their site and I was unable to find any information by searching the web. A little odd for an organisation that is supposed to represent all residents. They are obviously not on a recruiting campaign, however that is not unusual for communist organisations (for clues do a search on members on wikipedia) who only want views that are their own

      A person having certain political party affiliations and being a member of a certain organization does not mean the organization is affiliated with that political party.

      Regardless what everyone of us think about developments, the root of the problem in Money. I have no objection to accrueing money. It makes the world go around. Some developments survive others fail .
      The TNI may be a gamble. No one knows. Never the less it is essential that we have fore and against any Peachland or other town propositions. Ratepayer groups are the necessary groups to confer with Councils. There have been accusations of mudslinging and now a posible Communist organisation. No doubt a few comments are posted by TNI employees. One for sure. thats life.

    Hello Newcomer. Forgive me for asking. Why did you decide to come to the Village of Peachland. ….The PRA is the only Taxpayer Group that question Council on Municipal affairs, There is no other organisation to fulfill that roll. It is their Democratic Right to question as any other local citizen. Regardless it get people thinking,. Before the Empire building, this Town was run by Locals, every one knew Council members , they were approachable. Meetings were held in the evenings, which enabled Taxpayers to sit in at the meetings. Now it is during the day, so mainly retirees attend, but there is NO question period. In your opinion and you have only been here five minutes. TNI Would bring further Development . Such as what ?… There are three developments plus on the books now. All needing future services provided to make them viable. Additional Water and the Sewer load that is transported by pipe line to the Westbank area. Water is not unlimited (see Okanagan Water Survey report) we have a limited licenced Water-shed and a future dam to be built. All costing money, which is tight these days, never the less people want more services. It is Taxpayers money ( about three thousand of us). It does not grow on trees.
    I was a newcomer some years ago, to miss the the hussle of big towns, and settled in. Nice town. Sure there are eye-sores to some, like the Edge, It could have been improved but like many businesses here it is mainly seasonal and poor returns. Now we have large stores in West Kelowna. More choices and cheaper. Any shopping development in town will not employ high wage earners. What family with two children can work here and afford a $250,000 homes earning, to coin a phrase ‘Peanuts’. Higher wages are in Kelowna and industrial areas…. The PRA as is, the only Taxpayer Group at present questioning the issue.
    I do not question the TNI project, it may be worthwhile. The Bliss Area structure appears to be an asset but who is getting rich in that location. Nothing wrong with developments, But when one looks at the future one wonders how we can cope with the immediate costs that are necessary in the future, other than being absorbed into West Kelowna and ultimately Kelowna. Enough mentioned.
