It appears fire crews have control of a wildfire that threatened homes on the west side of Kalamalka Lake, south of Vernon.
North Okanagan firefighters were called out to a wildfire that started at about 10 p.m.
The fire is burning close to the western edge of Kalamalka Lake, below the Kalamalka Lake Lookout near Vista Road.
Firefighters from Vernon, Coldstream and the BC Forest Service are on scene. Firefighters from Lavington have been called in to assist and there is a call out for tenders at the scene. Tenders are trucks with large water tanks on them and are often used at fire scenes where access to hydrants is limited or non-existent.
There are unconfirmed reports that an evacuation order was issued for nearby residences.
An exact location of the fire is not known at this time but it is somewhere between Hwy. 97 and Kalamalka Lake.
