Want to sell, trade or even give away some of your unwanted or pre-loved stuff, but can’t hold your own garage sale? Then you’ll want to take part in the latest Trunk Sale at Okanagan College, Saturday, September 29.
Organized by the Regional Waste Reduction Office, the event champions reuse and recycling, so that less unwanted material ends up in our landfill.
Rae Stewart, Waste Reduction Facilitator with the Regional District says, “This is the perfect opportunity to unclutter your life! These Trunk Sales encourage you to get your unwanted stuff to someone else who really wants it. The sale happens in one big parking lot at Okanagan College. It’s all about bargains and reuse, and as they say one person’s trash is another’s treasure.”
Stewart explains, “The idea is to provide a unique opportunity to people who wouldn’t normally be able to host their own garage or yard sale, those that live in condos, apartments, or simply have no yard. But it’s not limited in that way. If you just want to show up and sell, trade, or give away your wares, you’re still welcome.”
Stewart adds trunk sales are very popular in other parts of the world and there’s been a tremendous response to the two previous events that the Waste Reduction Office has organized. “Just as the name suggests, you do the selling from the trunk of your car, van or back of your pickup. Load up the goods you’d like to sell, bring a table if you need one, or sell straight from the back of your vehicle-your choice. There’s no charge to secure a spot on sale day, but you do need to pre-register beforehand so we know how many people to expect.”
Deadline for registrations is Thursday, September 27. To register to secure yourself a spot, please call the Regional Waste Reduction Office at 250.469.6250. (Set up for sellers on the day of the sale will be between 7 and 8 a.m. only.)
If you’d prefer not to sell, but simply want to come out and shop on sale day, the Trunk Sale runs from 8 a.m. until 12 noon, Saturday, September 29 in parking Lot #17 of Okanagan College, 1000 KLO Road, right next to the student residence buildings. Admission to the public is free.
