We received notification at 5:20 p.m. Monday night that thanks to favourable weather conditions and excellent firefighting efforts, a portion of the area under Evacuation Order has been reclassified to an Evacuation Alert.

Peachland Elementary, located on Clements Crescent, is within the area that is no longer covered by the Evacuation Order. Instead, the school will remain on Evacuation Alert until further notice.

Because of the need to have staff thoroughly inspect the school, complete a deep cleaning of the facility, change filters, and service the HVAC equipment, the School District will be continuing with the contingency plan to have students and staff report to George Pringle Elementary Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m.

This will provide dstrict staff with time to both prepare Peachland Elementary to be reoccupied, as well as to establish a comprehensive safety plan for evacuating the students in the unlikely event of a return to a full Evacuation Order.

As staff will be working in the school this evening and tomorrow morning, it is expected that we will be able to bus the Peachland Elementary students from George Pringle Elementary back to Peachland Elementary after lunch Tuesday, September 11, 2012.

Parents are asked to plan to pick up their children at the end of the day from Peachland Elementary.

The previously announced arrangement to transport students from the former Peachland Primary site on Beach Avenue to George Pringle Elementary tomorrow morning remains in effect. The bus pick-up time will be 8:10 a.m.

Any updates will be reported in the local media and will be posted on the School District website (www.sd23.bc.ca).
