Police purr – severance pays off

A young kitten is safe and receiving treatment from a veterinarian after it was rescued from a hole last night.

On Thursday at 6 p.m., the Kelowna RCMP received a report of an animal in distress on the 8900 block of Gallaghers Circle. Apparently, a cat could be heard crying and had been ongoing for the past two days.

Cnst Sheldon Herman attended and after some considerable searching, purportedly using skills he acquired from watching Ace Ventura movies, located a small grey kitten trapped about 12 feet down a pipe at the back of a nearby property.

Unfortunately, Cnst Herman did not have the proper equipment available to retrieve the poor pussycat, but he knew who might. A quick call was made to the Kelowna Fire Department and crews were able to fashion a device that could pull the furry feline to safety. The rescued critter did not appear to be injured but was taken to a local veterinarian for any necessary medical treatment. The kitty is expected to make a full recovery.

It appears that even if the owner cannot be determined, the kitten will be going to a good home as Cnst Herman wants to adopt him as a pet.
