Proposed Water System Feasibility Study
The Regional Board has asked staff to provide information about possible costs and informally survey residents on their interest and support for establishing a water system to service properties in the Trepanier and Paradise Road areas. Most of the over 80 properties in this rural area of the Central Okanagan West Electoral Area receive water from private wells. A report will be prepared for the Board with the results of this initial gauge of residents support for a proposed water system before the Board considers whether to approve spending $20,000 for a detailed engineering feasibility study for the water system.
FrontCounter BC Referral Application
The Regional Board has given conditional support to a referral application from FrontCounter BC for a Licence of Occupation to permit a cellular communication tower, access road and powerline. TM Mobile Inc. proposes a 60-meter tower, antennae and equipment shelter on a 4-hectare parcel of Crown land on a ridge above Highway 33 in the Central Okanagan East Electoral Area in order to improve cellular coverage along the highway between Black Knight and Big White mountains. The Board asks that before any Provincial approval is given that the applicant meets a number of conditions including preparation of Environmental Assessment and Environmental Management plans.
August Building Statistics
During August, Development Services approved eight building permits for a construction projects valued at $227,900 in the Central Okanagan East and Central Okanagan West Electoral Areas. That compares with 24 permits issued in August 2011 for projects valued at $1.8-million.
Board Supports Kelowna Ironman Bid
The Regional Board has unanimously supported providing a letter of support for a bid by the City of Kelowna to host the Ironman Canada triathlon.
